4 년마다, as the next US presidential election approaches, the speculation begins anew.
Will thousands of Americans move to Canada if their candidate loses?
ì— “At a Loss? ìºë‚˜ë‹¤ëŠ” í•ìƒìžˆë‹¤,” the 뉴욕 타임즈 writes that “The pledge (to move across the border) comes mostly from left-leaning Americans who view Canada, with its universal health care and cultural progressiveness, as a liberal refuge from Red State America.”
그러나, do people actually make the move?
The 시대 reports that “…the number of United States citizens who permanently reside in Canada doubled during George W. Bush’s presidency (부터 5,800 ì— 2000 ì— 11,200 ì— 2008, ì— ë”°ë¼ ì‹œë¯¼, ìºë‚˜ë‹¤ ì´ë¯¼).”
It may not be elections motivating the move, 그래ë„. The 시대 concludes that “pocketbook issues outweigh politics,” with far more people relocating for work than for political reasons.
그래서, what do Canadians think of Americans’ declarations to relocate after the election?
The 워싱턴 í¬ìŠ¤íŠ¸ conducted a twitter poll and concluded that ìºë‚˜ë‹¤ì¸ë“¤ì€ 후보가지면 ë¶ìª½ìœ¼ë¡œ ì´ë™í•˜ëŠ” 미êµì˜ ìœ„í˜‘ì— ì˜í•´ ì¦ê²ê²Œ 아르.

We welcome them. After all we took the loyalists after independence….
ê°œì¸ì 으로, I would like you to handle your own drama. 하지만, ì•Œ, we’ve got room.
Here’s a question for the Americans out there: Did you come to Canada for political reasons?
Would you move across the border if your candidate loses?
