Canadá de saúde — Quanto tempo você esperar?
Se você precisar de uma substituição da anca, you’re better off living in Ontario or British Columbia than in Nova Scotia or Saskatchewan.
That’s according to a new study, Tempos de espera Tabelas-A Comparação por ProvÃncia, 2010, lançado esta semana pela Instituto Canadense de Informação de Saúde (CIHI).
Although a major complaint about the Canadian health care system is the length of time you can wait for treatment, the study found that — at least for high priority procedures, such as radiation therapy for cancer, cirurgia de catarata, and hip replacements — most patients are receiving care within the recommended wait times.
No entanto, the study also found significant variations by province. While most cancer patients receive radiation therapy within a month of requiring treatment, tempos de espera em Alberta e Nova Escócia são notavelmente mais.
For hip replacements, the average wait times, defined as the number of days between booking and receiving a hip replacement, variou de 62 dias em Ontário e 73 dia em a.C., até 132 dia em Saskatchewan e 178 dia — nearly six months — e Nova Scotia.
